ECO-TOURISM OFFICIALS VISIT EDEN

A delegation of eco-tourism business owners from the former Soviet Union visited Eden on May 14, 2013 to discuss river-based cultural tourism and environmental stewardship in Rockingham County. The delegates, from what is now the country of Tajikistan, were hosted by the Dan River Basin Association (DRBA), Three Rivers Outfitters, and Piedmont Folk Legacies as part of the "Rockingham County Jobs, Forests, and Rivers Initiative" (RCJFR).
TRAIL CLEAN-UP AT PHILPOTT LAKE

Work day on the Salthouse Branch to Twin Ridge (SHB-TR) phase of trail development at Philpott Lake. We've had good success so far, roughing in about a mile of new trail. This extended the existing trail at Salthouse Branch to a total of 1.2 miles so far. We've gotten good feedback from our local bike club partners about design and routing. We've tried to incorporate that as much as feasible, given terrain and property boundary constraints.
DRBA SUMMER CAMPS

Local kids from middle to high school will be spending part of their summer learning about things DRBA is interested in and a big part of. The summer camps will take part in June and July.

CLEANUP OF LAKES TALBOTT & TOWNES

We're partnering with Primland Resort to clean up Lake Talbott & Lake Townes in beautiful Meadows of Dan, VA on Saturday, May 11th and we're looking for volunteers to help! We will work in teams and use kayaks/canoes to paddle out to trashy areas and load debris onto a larger boat.
FIRST SATURDAY OUTING

You're invited to DRBA's May 4 First Saturday Outing on the Dan River, launching at Eden's Draper Landing Access. Will Truslow, avid kayaker and a past president of DRBA, will coordinate the seven-mile float from the public river access point to just below the Berry Hill Bridge at the North Carolina-Virginia line.
