Sept FSO Paddle on Beaver Creek Reservoir

Join us for a 4.0 mile paddle on the Beaver Creek Reservoir, GPS 36.746097, -79.870955, in Martinsville, VA at DRBA’s First Saturday Outing (FSO) on September 2, 2023 at 9:00am. Participants will meet at the boat launch to off-load gear and sign waivers. This paddle is suitable for all skill levels. Outings and meetings of the Dan River Basin Association are open to the public without charge.  Normal fees required at the reservoir have been waived for this DRBA outing.  Usually there is a $5 per day fee or a $15 season pass. 

Along the route, participants will have an opportunity to see a pristine lake with wooded shoreline, Great Blue Herons, ducks, turtles, soaring hawks and a variety of water’s edge plants and wildflowers.

Outing coordinator, Ellen Jessee, says, “I find this paddle peaceful, beautiful and especially convenient for me since I live nearby!” The lake was built in the 1950’s, and since it is the main source of drinking water for the city, no swimming is allowed.

Participants may supply their own boat, paddles, and life jackets. There are also canoes and kayaks (including paddles and life jackets) available to rent for $10 per day on a first come first served basis from the City of Martinsville at the boat launch.  Participants should also supply their own water and lunch.  There is a porta-potty at the boat launch and a public restroom at the picnic shelter.

Please wear water-shedding, artificial fabric or wool (not cotton, and certainly not blue jeans); and provide a back-up change of clothing. All participants will be required to sign a waiver and wear a life jacket.

Merge onto N Virginia Ave, Turn left onto VA-174 E/Kings Mountain Rd,
