Recreation and Stewardship Manager

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, articulate, well-organized, and motivated individual for the position of Recreation & Stewardship Manager. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Recreation and Stewardship Manager is responsible for a wide variety of responsibilities related to the development and implementation of outdoor recreation asset and conservation projects throughout the Dan River Basin which encompasses eight counties in North Carolina and eight counties in Virginia. This position is vital to DRBA’s ability to meet its mission to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources of the Dan River watershed.

 

Position Overview

The position responsibilities include project development and management, funding acquisition, contractor supervision and oversight in the planning and construction of parks, trails and river access points. In addition, the Recreation & Stewardship Manager will work closely with municipal managers, foundations and community partners to develop master plans that identify high priority outdoor recreational asset projects consistent with county and regional planning.  The Recreation and Stewardship Manager will also create and manage stewardship and conservation programs that protect and preserve regional natural resources such as forest health, riparian restoration, water quality and land sustainability. Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major or certification in environmental science, ecology, natural resources and 5 years of project management experience with considerable experience in budget development and administration, personnel and/or volunteer management, organization and delegation of responsibilities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience providing knowledge, abilities, and skills required for the position duties.  

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of environmental stewardship best practices and outdoor recreation asset development and construction is preferred. Skilled in multitasking, project management, staff and volunteer supervision, and excellent organizational and time management skills required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate successfully and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public, government, education and nonprofit partners is essential. 

 

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $35,000 to $55,000 depending upon the individual’s qualifications and experience. This position has a competitive benefits package, including contribution to health insurance coverage, paid time off (20 days personal/vacation and 13 holidays), and sick leave.
